5 Reasons Why Kauai Is the Best Island for You to Visit

Choosing the right island can make all the difference when planning your Hawaiian vacation. As someone who lives in Hawaii, I know each island has its own charm and offerings.

Kauai might be your perfect match if you love nature, seek out less crowded spots, and enjoy unique adventures

In this post, I’ll explore five reasons why Kauai could be the best island for you based on your interests.

1. Unparalleled Natural Beauty

Kauai, also known as the “Garden Isle,” is praised for its breathtaking natural landscapes. It’s home to the iconic Na Pali Coast, which offers stunning views of dramatic cliffs and perfect blue waters

Kauai’s untouched paradise is a sanctuary for those who appreciate the beauty of nature and seek peaceful environments away from the busy city life.

We’ve been to Kauai multiple times and come here when we want to spend the most time outdoors. The island’s diverse terrain offers something for every outdoor enthusiast – from snorkeling in pristine waters to hiking through rainforests and swimming under waterfalls.

2. You Plan to Go on a Helicopter Tour

All Hawaiian islands offer a unique view from above, but Kauai takes it to a new level. Over 70% of the island’s land is inaccessible by foot, which means that you can only witness its majestic beauty from the air.

Helicopter tours are a popular activity on Kauai, and for good reason. You’ll get an unforgettable bird’s eye view of the Na Pali CoastWaimea Canyon (also known as the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific”), and other hidden gems that can only be seen from above.

3. You Love Hiking

As mentioned, there are endless trails to explore on the island of Kauai. From beginner-friendly hikes to challenging ones, Kauai has it all.

Hiking trails, such as the Kalalau Trail, are some of the best in Hawaii.

Our favorite is obviously the Kalalau Trail, which spans 11 miles along the Na Pali Coast and offers stunning views of the coastline.

The Cliff Trail within Waimea Canyon is also a favorite when we want something easy with rewarding views.

4. You Love Seclusion

Compared to other Hawaiian islands like Oahu or Maui, Kauai is much less populated and developed. This means that you can find secluded beaches and hidden spots to disconnect from the world.

Kauai is where we go if we are tired of city life and just want to relax in peace and quiet. Here, you can find less crowded waterfallsbeaches with fewer people, and breathtaking viewpoints less crowded than on other islands.

This is especially true if traveling during the off-season when fewer tourists are on the island.

5. You Are Going for Your Honeymoon but Do Not Want to Go to Maui

While we always recommend Maui as the best Hawaiian Island to visit for your honeymoon, we understand that not everyone wants to follow the crowd.

Kauai offers a unique and romantic honeymoon experience, especially if you love the outdoors. Imagine taking a sunset cruise along the Na Pali Coast or a doors-off helicopter tour with your significant other. These unforgettable experiences will make your honeymoon very special and one-of-a-kind.

Also, Kauai has a variety of luxury resorts that are perfect for couples seeking privacy and seclusion.

Is Kauai Really That Great?

With all good things, there are always some downsides. Some might argue that Kauai is too remote and lacks the conveniences of more developed islands like Oahu or Maui.

However, this is also part of the island’s charm and appeal. The slower pace and laid-back lifestyle of Kauai allow visitors to disconnect and relax in a way that is not possible on other islands.

With all that being said, we love Kauai and highly recommend it to everyone who loves the outdoors! But the decision is ultimately up to you!
